Sepik River Highlands Discoverer Tours (Tour Code: DT-S12)

The Sepik Tari Discoverer is a journey of a lifetime that takes one through two most intriguing places in Papua New Guinea: the majestic Sepik River and the Tari Basin. Both these places are known for their raw ecological beauty and intriguing cultures and traditions of the inhabitants.  The itinerary is designed to allow close encounters with the local people of both regions at the same time giving one a sense of being lost in the earth’s last frontier.

10 nights brief itinerary overview: Port Moresby, Tari, Mt Hagen,  Simbu, Goroka and the Sepik River. (This program can be extended to Bogia and Manam Island in Madang for 3 additional nights).

Day 1: Port Moresby/Tari
Board flight PX864 to Tari at 08:30 and arrive in Tari at 10:00 and start tour of Tari Basin. Overnight at GMT Lodge. (LD)

Day 2: Tari Basin
Today fully immerse yourself in the Huli culture and its intriguing traditions. Overnight at GMT Lodge. (BLD)

Day 3: Tari/Mt Hagen
Board MAF flight (or road transfer if pax below 7) to Mt Hagen and start tour in Mt Hagen. Overnight at the Highlander Hotel. (BL)

Day 4: Mt Hagen (Rugli Village)
Visit Rugli village for a typical Hagen village and cultural discovery. You will encounter the Kumdi Tribe. Afternoon transfer back to Highlander Hotel and overnight. (BLD)

Day 5: Mt Hagen/Simbu/Goroka
Transfer to Goroka via Highlands Highway. En route encounter the Asaro Mudmen at Asaro Valley. Overnight at Pacific Gardens Hotel. (L)

Day 6: Goroka/Port Moresby/Wewak
Board flight PX 961 to Port Moresby and get your connection flight to Wewak on flight PX126 at 15:30. Overnight at In-Wewak Boutique Hotel. (Bed only)

Day 7:  Wewak/Kanganamun
Transfer to Pagwi for your canoe expedition. Visit the oldest Haus Tambaran along the Sepik River and overnight at Kanganamun Guest House. (BLD)

Day 8: Kanganamun/Palambe/Kamanabit
Transfer to Palambe by motorize canoe and hike inland for about 30 minutes and exploring the Palembe villages and visit the Haus Tambarans. Overnight Kamanabit village guest house. (BLD)

Day 9: Kamanabit/Chambri Lakes
Continue journey into Chambri Lake by motorized canoe and see potteries of all sizes, shapes, colors and patterns. Overnight at Kamanabit village house. (BLD)

Day 10: Kamanabit/Wewak
Bid farewell to your friendly hosts at Kamanabit village and transfer to Pagwi and onto Wewak. Overnight at In-Wewak Boutique Hotel. (BL)

Day 11: Wewak/Port Moresby
Depart for Port Moresby on flight PX125 for your next destination. END OF PROGRAM or for EXTENSION to Madang see below program.

EXTENDED PROGRAM

Madang (Bogia & Manam) Getaway. (Tour Code: ET-B12)
In this extended program you will be spending three nights in the Madang province visiting the Bogia District. The highlight of this extended program includes visiting the Manam Volcanic Island and exploring remote cultures and traditions of this Bogia people who re renowned for their friendliness.

 3 nights itinerary: Wewak, Madang , Bogia and Manam.

Day 11: Wewak/Madang/Bogia
Board flight PX125 to Madang at 06:00. On arrival transfer to Bogia and tour Bogia and its surrounding villages. In the afternoon settle in and overnight at Anua Negu Lodge. (LD) 

Day 12: Bogia/Manam Island
Transfer by boat to Manam Island for a full day of activity and adventure. Overnight at Anua Negu Guest House. (BLD)

Day 13: Bogia
Visit several villages in Bogia for village and cultural studies. Overnight at Anua Negu. (BLD)

Day 14: Bogia/Madang/Wewak
Transfer to Madang and board flight PX911 to Port Moresby for your next destination. END OF PROGRAM.
